ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Golden Bears soccer team (2-4, 1-2 NSIC) hits the road this weekend for a pair of NSIC matches against Northern State (5-1, 2-1 NSIC) and MSU Moorhead (0-5, 0-3 NSIC). Concordia swept a home weekend against these two opponents last year.
Concordia picked up their first two wins of the season last week before dropping their third match of the week. Concordia opened the week up with a Monday afternoon against Oklahoma Baptist in a non-conference game and broke a three game scoring drought, erupting for three goals in the contest to take a 3-1 victory in the first meeting between the two schools. McKenzie Buck (Hudson, Wis.) picked up the first two tallies for CU. Concordia continued that momentum into Crookston on Friday for a conference match with the Golden Eagles and shut them out 1-0 to pick up their first conference win and fifth win in a row overall against UMC.
Alahna Anderson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) picked up the lone goal. Saturday proved to be a tougher test as the Golden Bears were blanked by the Bemidji State Beavers 2-0. CU is just 1-6 all-time in Bemidji.
Northern State headed south last weekend and split the weekend with Wayne State and Augustana. On Friday, the Wolves knocked off the Wildcats in Wayne by a score of 5-3. Allie MacDonald scored two goals in the game to lead NSU. On Saturday, Northern State dropped a 3-1 match to the Vikings. Bobyye Pendleton picked up the Wolves only goal in the game. MacDonald and Alyssa Wilde lead the Wolves with three goals each on the season.
MSU Moorhead took two losses in their trip to Augustana and Wayne State in their search for their first win of the year. The Dragons scored first on Friday against Augie but gave up six straight goals in a 6-1 defeat. Cara Zastrow picked up the goal for MSUM. Wayne State blanked the Dragons on Saturday 1-0. Ashley Leintz had a solid game in net, making 14 saves in the loss.
