ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team (1-3, 0-1 NSIC) returns to NSIC action this weekend on the road at Minnesota Crookston (2-2, 0-1 NSIC) and Bemidji State (4-0, 1-0 NSIC) coming off a 3-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist. Saturday's match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. in Crookston. Sunday is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. in Bemidji.
Concordia faced off with #4 Minnesota State in their conference and home opener last Thursday night and came up short in a 1-0 loss. Keeper
Emma Gartner was stellar after giving up a goal in the third minute and made some big saves to keep the score at 1-0. She finished the day with eight saves. The Golden Bears have yet to win in their ten meetings with Minnesota State. They were able to get in the win column on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match with Oklahoma Baptist 3-1 at Sea Foam Stadium. The Golden Bears used a pair of tallies from
McKenzie Buck and another from
Erica Landry to break out of their early season scoring drought.
Minnesota Crookston comes in after a split last week. They opened up their conference schedule last Wednesday in Bemidji and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Beavers. They were able to bounce back and pick up a 2-0 win over Providence University College and Theological Seminary on Saturday and evened their record at 2-2.
Historically, Concordia has had good success against the Golden Eagles. The Golden Bears have won four straight and 10 of 15 overall against UMC. Concordia's last trip to Crookston came back on September 26, 2010 and resulted in a 4-0 CU win.
Bemidji State is off to a fast start to the season, winning their first four games. They have outscored their opponents 8-2 in the process. Last week, the Beavers took down Crookston 1-0 then swept a trip to northern Michigan with a 2-1 win over Michigan Tech on Saturday and a 3-1 win over Northern Michigan on Sunday.
The Golden Bears have struggled in six trips to Bemidji all-time, only winning one. That one win came in their last trip there on October 2, 2011 with a 2-1 win. The two teams tied 2-2 in St. Paul last year.
