DENVER, Colo. – The Concordia University volleyball team (6-1) extended their winning streak to three with a 3-0 win over #15 Truman State (4-2). The Golden Bears cruised to set wins of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-16. Concordia picked up their fourth win over a ranked opponent this season. CU is now 4-1 all-time against the Bulldogs.
Concordia held a 13-7 lead before using 12-2 run in the first set to bury TSU 25-9.
Kayla Koenecke (Delano, Minn. ) hit a perfect 1.000 in the first on five attempts and
Taylor Dordan (Blaine, Minn.) picked up six digs.
The second set started off much in the same way the first ended with the Golden Bears grabbing a quick 10-3 lead. The lead would be extended to 11 at multiple points in the set, including a 23-12 advantage late. Truman scored five of the next six to make it interesting but it was too little too late as CU went up 2-0 by winning the set 25-17.
Truman fought hard to keep the match alive in the third set and took an early 8-4 lead but were unable to hold on as CU won the set 25-16 to take the match in three sets. Koenecke picked up six more kills while
Emily McDonough (Stillwater, Minn. ) added five in the final set.
Koenecke finished the match with a double double (11 kills and 10 digs), hitting .625. McDonough also finished with a double double (10 kills and 10 digs), hitting .615.
Riley Hanson (Nevis, Minn.) registered another efficient performance by hitting .562 with her 10 kills.
Amanda Konetchy (Victoria, Minn. ) had 35 assists and six digs. Concordia's defense was impressive, holding the Bulldogs to just .067 on the attack as a team.
Concordia is now 28-6 in the Colorado Premier Challenge in their eight years in the tournament. Concordia plays #11 Angelo State at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow to begin division play in the tournament. The winner of that match plays in the championship game at 8:00 p.m. and the loser plays in the third place game at 6:00 p.m.
