ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Thursday, September 12th the Concordia University Department of Athletics is proud to host "Make-A-Wish" night as the women's soccer team plays host to Minnesota State-Mankato at Sea Foam Stadium at 7:00 p.m. One dollar of each purchased ticket will be donated to Make-A-Wish Minnesota as will all proceeds from the Golden Bear Raffle that will take place until the start of halftime. The Golden Bears (0-2-0) return home from a trip to Pueblo, Colo. for a pair of games against UC-Colorado Springs and CSU-Pueblo. Concordia dropped the opener 3-0 to UCCS and lost a 1-0 decision to CSUP. The team played better than the scores showed as they controlled play for long periods of time and outshot their opponents in both matches.
#4 Minnesota State (2-0-0) opened up their season with a 1-0 win over Truman and a 3-0 win over #11 Central Missouri. The opening weekend sweep helped the Mavericks move up two spots from their preseason #6 ranking. MSU is the defending regular season NSIC champion and made a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight last season.
Historically, the Mavericks have been a difficult opponent for the Golden Bears, winning the first nine meetings between the two schools.
Last year, CU traveled to Mankato for the conference opener and dropped the match 4-1.
Amanda Olsen gave CU a 1-0 lead at the 10:06 mark, but Mankato evened the score 36 seconds later on a Nicole Dooher goal. The score would remain tied until 34th minute when Mankato would take a 2-1 lead on a goal from Sydney Temple. Minnesota State tacked on two more goals in the second half to give them a 4-1 victory.
