ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul (22-7, 9-2 NSIC) picked up an
11-3 game one win in five innings over Northern State (12-17, 4-7) on Sunday afternoon at Oxford Recreation Field.
Northern State won the second game 6-4, getting 15 hits against the Golden Bears.
GAME 1: Concordia 11, Northern State 3 (5 innings)
Concordia registered a 12-hit day with freshman
Teona Zepeda (Woodbury, Minn.) leading the charge with a 3-4 performance, scoring three times and driving in one. She also stole her fourth base of the year.
Senior
Brynn Larsen (Oconto Falls, Wis.) headlined the day and set the tone in the first inning with a two-run double. She also stole home as Concordia took an early 3-0 lead. Larsen went 2-4 in the game and drove in three runs.
Concordia scored three more in the second inning for a 6-0 lead including an RBI double by
Missie Feuerbach (Iowa City, Iowa), her 10th double of the year. She went 2-4 in the game.
The Wolves got two back in the fourth inning but Concordia came through with a four run bottom of the fourth for a 10-2 lead including an RBI ground rule double to right center by
Bekah Roth (Shoreview, Minn.) and a two-run single by
Lindsey Kamleiter (Lakeville, Minn.).
Senior
Ashley Kluever (Cottage Grove, Minn.) went the distance for the win, improving to 13-5. She allowed three runs on four hits while walking six over 5.0 innings.
Game 2: Northern State 6, Concordia 4
The Northern State bats proved to be too steady and explosive in the second game as the Wolves racked up 15 hits including three doubles. The Wolves started hot, scoring three runs in the first and one in the second for a 4-1 lead.
Concordia scored twice in the third, manufacturing the runs as
Alicia Meiser reached on a dropped third strike by the catcher, stole second and scored on a fielder's choice. Zepeda, who singled to move Meiser to third, would come around to score on an infield single to the hole at short by Roth.
Concordia tied the game in the fifth inning on Larsen's solo homer to the opposite field in left, her team-leading fourth of the year.
But the Wolves scored two more in the top of the sixth and the Golden Bears went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings.
In the second game, Zepeda was 2-4 as she went 5-8 in the doubleheader.
Meiser's stolen base was her 29th of the season.
Stephanie Kappes took the loss, falling to 9-3 on the year. She went the distance, allowing five earned runs (six total) in her seven innings. She allowed 15 hits, but only walked one and struck out three.
