FAYETTE, Iowa - Concordia-St. Paul (10-7, 3-2 NSIC) picked up a
9-6 win in the first of a four game series against Winona State at Robertson Woods Field on the campus of Upper Iowa University on Saturday afternoon. Concordia
dropped game two 11-5.
GAME 1: Concordia 9, Winona State 6
The Golden Bears made it three straight wins against the Warriors as junior right hander
Adam Kramer (Wausau, Wis.) went four-plus frames with six strikeouts for the victory. Redshirt freshman
Tyler Brekke (Lakeville, Minn.) worked the set-up role with senior left hander
Griff Kilber (Chanhassen, Minn.) picking up the save with 1.2 scoreless.
Seniors
Greg Larpenter (Urbandale, Iowa) and
Jared Kramer (Wausau, Wis.) each drove in three runs and sophomore
Kyle Dalton (Minnetonka, Minn.) drove in a pair.
Concordia scored six runs in the fourth inning to overcome a 3-0 deficit. The Warriors rallied with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, knocking Kramer out of the game. But a three-run double by Larpenter in the sixth inning gave Concordia enough breathing room as the bullpen closed out the game.
Kramer improved to 3-1 on the year while Kilber earned his first save.
GAME 2: Winona State 11, Concordia 5
In game two, Concordia trailed 11-4 entering the top of the eighth inning when the game was suspended due to rain. The game was completed on Sunday at noon.
Freshman
Ryan Poppitz (Plymouth, Minn.) had a pair of home runs, a solo and a three-run, the first in his career, going 2-4 in the game.
Eric Fasnacht (Eden Prairie, Minn.) added an RBI ground out in the ninth inning.
Senior
Andy Fagely (Mahtomedi, Minn.) took the loss, falling to 3-1. He allowed a pair of runs over 3.0 innings, striking out six and walking four while surrendering five hits. Senior left hander
Patrick Rydeen (Lakeland, Minn.) worked a scoreless eighth on Sunday to finish the game.
