ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul softball (18-6, 5-1 NSIC) will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for a Wednesday doubleheader against Sioux Falls (8-12, 3-3) at Sherman Park at 2 p.m. The games were originally scheduled for Tuesday prior to relocating to the off-campus field.
Concordia's softball team has been on an extended hot streak, winning 14 of the last 15 games and five straight. The squad is led by right handed pitching duo
Ashley Kluever (Cottage Grove, Minn.) and
Stephanie Kappes (Circle Pines, Minn.). Kluever has thrown seven shutouts in her last eight starts with her seven shutouts ranking fifth in the nation. She also ranks 10th in Division II softball strikeouts per seven innings (9.4) and 13th in fewest hits allowed per seven innings (4.3).
While Kluever has 10 wins and a 2.15 ERA, Kappes has eight wins and a 2.68 ERA and is 65th in the country in strikeout rate (6.3).
Concordia's pitching staff has been piling up the headlines, and it's been aided by a .972 team fielding percentage behind it, ranking 11th in the nation.
The offense has been solid as well, with a team .314 average and 1.9 stolen bases per game. The lineup is anchored by senior
Brynn Larsen (Oconto Falls, Wis.), ranked 19th nationally in hitting (.477), 56th in on-base percentage (.514) and 53rd in slugging (.754). With Larsen in the middle of the lineup leading the team with 20 RBI, it's been
Alicia Meiser (Circle Pines, Minn.) at the top of the order getting on base and into scoring position. Meiser is eighth in the nation in stolen bases per game (0.96) while hitting .423 with a .500 OBP.
Wednesday's match-up against USF marks the first meeting between the two programs.
