ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul men's basketball team (9-17, 7-15 NSIC) takes the eighth seed from the NSIC South Division and will head to the top seed from the North Division, St. Cloud State (19-7, 15-7) for an NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament first round game at Halenbeck Hall at 8 p.m.
The Golden Bears and Huskies have met once before in the NSIC Tournament, a 76-61 win for SCSU in the 2010 tournament, which the Huskies went on to win. SCSU would also win the regional and advance to the Division II National Semifinals (Final Four) that season as well.
Concordia is 2-9 all-time in the NSIC Tournament and 2-7 in the first round. Concordia has only had the eight seed once before, in its first year of postseason eligibility in the 2002-03 season. That year, Concordia lost at top seed Northern State, 99-65 in Aberdeen, S.D.
Concordia and St. Cloud State met once earlier this year at Halenbeck Hall, a 97-60 win for the Huskies. But Concordia has won two of the last three trips to Halenbeck Hall and has won three of the last five meetings in the series overall. SCSU holds the series lead, 15-5 entering the 21st meeting.
The winner of Wednesday's games advances to the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament quarterfinals. If St. Cloud State wins, it will host the Upper Iowa / Minot State winner, while if Concordia wins it will travel to the winner of that contest on Saturday.
