ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 24th-ranked Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (20-5, 18-3 NSIC) clinched at least a share of the 2013 NSIC Regular Season Championship with a 73-59 win over Southwest Minnesota State (4-23, 2-19) on Friday night at Gangelhoff Center. It marks Concordia's fifth NSIC Regular Season title in program history, and also clinches a share of the NSIC South Division championship.
Sophomore
Amanda Barton (Waterville, Minn.) provided the spark off the bench with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting including 3-of-4 from long range. Senior
Mandy Poke (Richfield, Minn.) was also solid off the bench with 10 points and three steals, collecting five rebounds as well. Poke made a pair of momentum shifting three-pointers in the game as well. Adding another bench contribution was sophomore
Kayla Hulsebus (Eden Prairie, Minn.), distributing six assists.
Overall, four players hit double-figures as starting posts
Kionda Nicks and
Anika Whiting each reached 10 points. Two others,
Rachel Hansen (Eagan, Minn.) and
Carissa Wolyniec (Minneapolis, Minn.), scored eight and nine, respectively.
SMSU was led by Rebekah Rolling's 15 points.
Concordia has now won 12-straight games and 17 of its last 18 games overall. The Golden Bears close out the regular season with a home game against Sioux Falls tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Gangelhoff Center for senior night, honor Poke as the team's lone senior.
