ST. PAUL, Minn. - This weekend, #24 Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball (19-5, 17-3 NSIC) hosts Southwest Minnesota State (4-22, 2-18) and Sioux Falls (12-12, 9-11) on Friday and Saturday. The Golden Bears have won 11 straight and are 16-1 in the last 17 games.
The Golden Bears are closing in on a fifth NSIC Regular Season Championship, along with a first South Division crown. They need just one win or one Minnesota State loss to clinch a share of the title, and a combination of two wins or MSU losses to clinch the title outright. An outright divisional title gives the Golden Bears a number one seed in the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament, while a share of the divisional title would mean the South's top seed will be determined by tie-breakers. The most likely tie-breaker in this scenario would be the outcome of Winona State and Wayne State's weekends. Concordia needs Winona State to lose two games at Augustana and at Wayne State, otherwise MSU will hold the tie-breaker. If WSU and WSC end up tied, the scenarios are further complicated, as league tie-breakers are to be broken in descending order.
SMSU comes into the weekend riding a four game losing streak and sit at the bottom of the South Division. Concordia defeated the Mustangs 81-59 back on December 15 in Marshall. Sioux Falls comes in off a win against Wayne State in Sioux Falls. That win snapped a three game losing streak. The Golden Bears won their first ever meeting between the two schools 74-49 on December 14.
The Golden Bears have moved into the top 25 in the country at #24. They received 72 votes, 33 less than #23 Augustana, who received 105. They also debuted at third in the Central Region rankings.
Friday's game is Play 4Kay Night and Saturday is Senior Night. Friday will feature drawings for prizes donated by Joe Senser's and Radisson-Roseville. Everyone who brings an item on the
