Winning streak hits 23 after straight set win over Bemidji State

ST. PAUL, Minn. -
The Concordia University volleyball team (25-1, 17-0 NSIC) extended their winning streak to 23 overall and 31 in NSIC play with a three set win over the Bemidji State Beavers (5-20, 1-16 NSIC) on Friday night. The nation's best offensive unit hit .400 in the match and held BSU to just a .120 attack percentage. The Golden Bears have now won 25 in a row over the Beavers.

Kayla Koenecke picked up her 15th double-double on the season with 10 kills and 10 digs as she hit .417 in the match. Amanda Konetchy assisted on 43 of the 51 kills for CU as she added to her nation-leading average of 13.14 assist per set coming into the match. Erienne Lauersdorf had a big night for the Golden Bears with a match-high 14 kills with a .522 attack percentage. She also chipped in six digs, three blocks and two aces.

CU made short work of the Beavers in the first set, jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead and cruising to a 25-9 win. The Golden Bears held a lead of at least five for the entire set from that point on and used an 11-0 run in the middle of the set to run away with it as they hit an impressive .516 in the set.

Concordia jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second but the Beavers battled back, cutting the lead to two at 12-10. The Golden Bears responded by scoring the next four points and 13 of the next 18 to run away in the second set by a score of 25-15. Riley Hanson did most of the damage for CU with seven kills and four blocks in the set.

The Golden Bears grabbed nine of the first 11 points in the third set and never led by less than six the rest of the way as they took the deciding set 25-15. Konetchy controlled play in the final set, assisting on 16 of 17 kills.

Jessica Yost led the Beavers with seven kills and Chelsea Frison chipped in six kills while hitting .385. Kayla DeJong picked up 20 digs for BSU.

Concordia finishes up their regular season home schedule tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against Minnesota Crookston.
