Golden Bears pick up big conference win over NSU on Senior Day
Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University volleyball team (24-1, 16-0 NSIC) picked up a big three set win over #23 Northern State (19-4, 12-4 NSIC) in St. Paul on Saturday afternoon.  The Golden Bears honored their five seniors on Senior Day at Gangelhoff Center.  Concordia has now won 22 matches in a row, matching their biggest winning streak since their perfect 2009 season.  CU has also won 30 straight NSIC regular season matches dating back to early last season.

Kayla Koenecke and Amanda Konetchy didn't disappoint on Senior Day.  Koenecke led the Golden Bears with 15 kills and 13 digs along with a stellar .429 attack percentage.  The double-double was her 14th on the year.  Konetchy contributed 40 assists on the Golden Bears' 48 kills and even snuck in a kill of her own.  Erienne Lauersdorf also chipped in nine kills for CU.

The Wolves proved to be a good test for the Golden Bears as they battled hard throughout the match.

In the first set after the Wolves took a 1-0 lead, Concordia grabbed control and did not trail the rest of the way.  NSU kept it close, not allowing CU to build a lead bigger than seven at 20-13, but were unable to even it up or take the lead as Concordia took the first 25-21.

Both teams hit well in the first set with Northern State actually out-hitting Concordia .343 to .341.

The Wolves took the first three points in the second set but CU quickly took the lead back at 5-4.  The Golden Bears once again held off NSU despite never leading by more than five in the set until the final point in a 25-19 set win to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Concordia defense shined in the second set, holding Northern State to just an .071 attack percentage.

The third set began with the Wolves once again grabbing the first three points but it wouldn't last.  Concordia took their first lead of the set with a 5-0 run as they turned a 7-6 deficit into an 11-7 lead.  The lead would get as large as nine at 18-9 as the Golden Bears cruised to a 25-19 win to complete the sweep.

NSU was shut down again in the third as they hit only .026 in the final set.

Emily McDonough was a spark on the defensive end, contributing a team-best 16 digs and three blocks to go along with her six kills in the match.

Jussy Tuscherer had a team leading nine kills for the Wolves.

Concordia wraps up their regular season home schedule next weekend with Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston coming to town.
