Concordia holds a 12-2 overall record in five trips to the NSIC/US Bank Tournmant and has claimed the title three times. Their last tournament crown came back in 2006, their third consecutive season winning it. In 2007, Wayne State claimed the title after the top-seeded Golden Bears were upended by MSU Moorhead in the semifinals. Last season, in the first conference tournament since 2007 the #2 SMSU Mustangs defeated #1 CU in St. Paul in a five set thriller.
Minnesota Crookston has yet to pick up a win in the NSIC/US Bank Tournament in their three trips, going 0-3. The Golden Eagles' last trip to the tournament came back in 2006.
Concordia ended their NSIC regular season with a split against the St. Cloud State Huskies and #3 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Â CU clinched the conference title outright with a straight set win in St. Cloud (25-16, 17, 11) to give themselves an opportunity to finish the NSIC slate unblemished. Â The Bulldogs had other ideas on Saturday as they jumped on the Golden Bears early and grabbed the first two sets. Â Concordia bounced back by winning the next two and forcing a fifth set, but the Bulldogs closed the door with a win in the fifth to give CU their first loss in 25 matches and their first conference loss in 33 matches (23-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 11-15).
UMC is coming off a big home sweep of Winona State and Upper Iowa to secure their spot as the eighth and final seed in the tournament. The Golden Eagles have already set a school record for wins in a season (15). This season represents a huge turnaround for the current seniors, who started their careers with an 0-28 season.
Brittany Looker leads the Golden Eagles with 154 kills (3.87 per set) and Sierra Trost ranks eighth in the NSIC with 9.92 assists per set. Chelsea Wiesner also ranks eighth in the NSIC with 4.17 digs per set.
