Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Concordia University volleyball team (20-1, 12-0 NSIC) swept the Minnesota State Mavericks (8-11, 4-8 NSIC) on Tuesday night at Taylor Center. The Golden Bears completed the regular season sweep of MSU, taking all six sets in the two matches. Concordia has now won 18 matches in a row, their longest streak since a 44 game streak in 2010-2011 when they won their final 22 matches of 2010 and first 22 of 2011.
CU used an 8-0 run to turn a 9-9 tie in the first set into a 17-9 lead. Concordia cruised the rest of the way to a 25-15 set win to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
The second set was a tight battle throughout much of the set with the Golden Bears holding a slight lead. The set stayed close at 20-17 before the Golden Bears grabbed the last five points to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Mavericks fought back from a 9-6 deficit in the third to take a lead at 10-9 before Concordia responded with a six point run to regain the lead at 15-10. Minnesota State was unable to get any closer than three and dropped the third and final set 25-17.
Concordia once again dominated with their defense, holding MSU to just an .080 hitting percentage. Chandra Honebrink and Lexi Platz each had seven kills for the Mavericks.
Emily McDonough was the only Golden Bear in double digits in kills for the second consecutive match, finishing with 10.
Kara Pioske led the Golden Bear defense with 11 digs while
Amanda Konetchy contributed 33 assists.
The Golden Bears finish off the week with a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday at Minot State and U-Mary.
