ST. PAUL, Minn. - The top ranked Concordia University volleyball team (19-1, 11-0 NSIC) will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday night in Mankato as the Golden Bears take on the Minnesota State Mavericks (8-10, 4-7 NSIC). Concordia has won 17 matches in a row and their current winning streak ties their best from last season.
These two teams met back on September 24th in St. Paul and ended with a Golden Bear sweep. Heather Schiller set a new career high with 15 kills (she has since surpassed that mark) and had a .600 hitting percentage to pace the CU attack. Erienne Lauersdorf joined Schiller in double digits with 11 kills in the match and Amanda Konetchy added 37 assists. The Mavericks were led by Chandra Honebrink and her 11 kills and .647 hitting percentage, despite the team hitting only .179 as a whole.
Overall, the Golden Bears have won 17 of the 20 meetings all-time between the schools. CU had won 15 in a row against MSU before the Mavericks beat Concordia in five sets in Mankato last year.
Last weekend, Concordia moved into sole possession of first place after their fifth consecutive weekend conference sweep to begin the season. Concordia took down Sioux Falls 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 on Friday and held the Cougars to just .107 hitting as a team. Saturday was much of the same as the Golden Bears took the three sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 and held the #6 SMSU Mustangs to an .092 attack percentage for the match.
Minnesota State comes into the match riding a five match losing streak. This past weekend they were swept by #6 SMSU and lost in five sets to SIoux Falls.
