ST. PAUL, Minn. - After making a major breakthrough last weekend with back-to-back road wins at nationally-ranked opponents, the Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (7-4, 5-2 NSIC) takes its four game winning streak against another set of tough games at Gangelhoff Center.
This weekend's opponents, MSU Moorhead on Friday at 6 p.m. and Northern State on Saturday at 4 p.m., feature 4-3 league records and sit just a game behind the Golden Bears in the NSIC overall standings. Those two teams also must play at Minnesota State (5-2) in Mankato, Minn. as well.
With eight of the top nine teams in the NSIC being travel partners (the exception being Winona State), weekends such as this can provide a boost to anyone able to come away with two wins, and be a major set-back if a team goes 0-2.
Only one team in the NSIC, St. Cloud State, sits alone at the top of the standings at 6-1. SCSU travels with Minnesota Duluth (5-2) as the two teams will be at Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. The other pair of travel teams, Augustana and Wayne State, are on the road at Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
Just seven games into the season, it's far too early to begin watching the scoreboard but the Golden Bears will look to capitalize on the momentum created by last weekend's results while defending the longest active winning streak in the 16-team conference.
