ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University volleyball team claimed another straight-set victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Northern State 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19 at the Gangelhoff Center. The Golden Bears move to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in Northern Sun action.
Northern State took a 2-0 lead in the first set but that would be its first and last lead of the set. The Golden Bears went on a 10-to-2 run to lead 10-4 and never looked back en route to a 25-19 win.
The second set started in similar fashion as the Wolves claimed seven of the first 10 points, but Concordia came right back with a 7-to-1 run to lead 10-8 and never relinquished the lead. The Bears collected 20 kills as
Amanda Konetchy (Victoria, Minn.) set up 18 assists.
In the third, CU took the first point and never trailed. The Bears hit a game-high .458 on the attack (16-5-24) in the final set.
Ellie Duffy (Fridley, Minn.) paced the offense with 14 kills and three aces.
Cassie Haag (Plymouth, Minn.) and
Kara Pioske (Waconia, Minn.) also tallied double digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Pioske recorded her second consecutive double-double by adding a game-high 13 digs.
Kayla Koenecke (Delano, Minn.) was one kill shy of a double-double as she tallied nine kills and 13 digs. Konetchy finished with 46 assists for a 15.33 average per set.
Concordia hits the road on September 28 for a battle with league-leading No. 3 Minnesota Duluth. The Bears and Bulldogs will begin play in Duluth at 7:00 p.m.
