FAYETTE, Iowa – The Concordia University soccer team suffered a 2-0-shutout loss at the hands of Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears start the 2012 campaign with two losses at the Peacock Classic, hosted by Upper Iowa University.
“We leave frustrated over the weekend,” head coach
Steven Bellis said. “We played some great stuff and failed to take our chances in both games.”
Southwest Baptist scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 32:17 mark in the first period. Kate Jamison came from the left and buried the goal in the back-right corner of the net – Ashley Creson was credited with the assist.
The Golden Bears took five shots in the first but couldn't convert any for a score, while the Bearcats made one of nine.
Jamison tallied her second goal of the game for Southwest Baptist in the 65th minute of the second for a 2-0 final. Keeper Megan Link assisted on the goal that landed in the back-left corner of the net. Concordia was out-shot 10-to-7 in the second.
First-year Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) suffered her first loss in goal for the Bears after recording four saves, while Link made seven saves, six of which in the second half.
