Sweet Sixteen Run Ends

SIOUX FALLS, S. D. - The Golden Bears (33-23) magical run ended on Saturday as they fell 10-2 at the hands of the Augustana Vikings (53-10). Concordia went up 2-0 early but were undone by an eight run fourth inning as Augustana sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. A school record was broke on Saturday as Concordia stole their 103 stolen of the year which sets a new school mark. BOX SCORE

Seniors Katie Anderson (Mendota Heights, Minn.), Calli Brennan (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Erin Tjornhom (Eagan, Minn.) finish their career with a Super Regional experience and one of just 16 teams in a all of Division II to be playing ball this late in the season. Individually the three cemented themselves as some of the best players to ever wear the Concordia stitch across their chest.

Anderson finished with 247 hits in her career, second most all time in school history. She also finishes with 108 stolen bases most all time in school history and was only thrown out five times in a 113 opportunities. Her 160 runs scored is second most in a Golden Bear jersey. In addition she was second in triples with 11 and third in total bases with 328.

Brennan who had two hits on Saturday moved up to fourth all time in hits with 219 in her career. She is seventh all time with 97 runs scored as well. Her batting average of .331 ties her for eighth all time and was ninth in slugging percentage. Her 34 doubles in her career put her fifth in school history and added 15 home runs, eighth all time. Her 140 RBI is second most in school history and sixth in total bases with 312.

In just two years Tjornhom is one of the best sluggers in school history finishing third in batting average (.374), first in slugging percentage (.582), third in on base percentage (.424) and sixth in homers with 16. She also stole 25 bases in her career which is eighth all time in school history.

The bottom of the first inning saw the Golden Bears put their first three runners on base as Anderson singled, Alicia Meiser (Circle Pines, Minn.) singled and so did Brennan. After a strikeout Missie Feuerbach (Iowa City, Iowa) singled to right field scoring two.

Augustana got a run back in the third with a solo homer to right center just getting over the fence. Concordia tried to get the run back in the bottom of the inning as Brennan singled through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tjornhom then singled on a ball hit in front of the plate, she then stole second to put runners on second and third with no body out. Concordia could not score a ground out to short, a strike out and then a deep fly to left center ended the inning.

The top of the fourth inning did the damage as 12 batters came to the plate for the Vikings. They would score eight runs on six hits, two hit by pitch, a walk and an error. After CU went down in order in the fourth Augustana added a run on a two out double to right field making it 10-2. Brennan drew a one out walk but Concordia failed to score as Augustana won 10-2.
