ST. PAUL, Minn. - This afternoon, the Concordia baseball team puts their five game winning streak on the line as they travel to Mankato, Minn. for an afternoon NSIC doubleheader against #23 Minnesota State at 1:30 p.m. Weather calls for 62 degrees of partly cloudy skies and 20-plus mile per hour wind conditions.

Concordia has had two win streaks of 5-plus games in 2012 and are one game shy of their season long streak of six games. But under head coach Mark "Lunch" McKenzie and Concordia's 13 years of Division II baseball, the Golden Bears are just 3-16 all-time against the Mavericks and have lost five straight games, last winning in 17-7 in the first game of a midweek doubleheader in Mankato when MSU was ranked #25 in the land.

Top contenders to get starts today including right handersZach Goodwin and Nicho Roessler who have each started a game this season. Other potential starting candidates include left handers Griff KilberCody Wilcoxson and Patrick Rydeen who have yet to start a game this year, but have started games in past seasons for Concordia.

Goodwin is 2-0 in three appearances with a 4.15 earned run average in 13.0 innings. Roessler is 1-0 with a save in two appearances with one start, carrying a 9.00 ERA in 8.0 innings.

Minnesota State played a Friday-Saturday 4-game series against Sioux Falls an dpitched Harvey Martin, Tyler Ockuly, Ben Kincaid and TJ Larson. Assuming all four are unavailable for today's games, that leaves Bryce Bellin (4-0, 2.53, 7 app, 5 gs) as the only other pitcher who has started this season.

However, Bellin threw 4.0 innings of relief for Ockuly (2-1, 3.20, 5 app, 4 gs) on Friday, who pitched the first 3.0 frames. Martin (6-0, 1.85, 6 app, 4 gs) also only threw 4.0 innings on Friday, leaving MSU's starting pitching projection up in the air as all three could get work in.
