CONCORDIA HOLDS OFF SCSU IN 68-65 WIN

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Concordia (11-18, 8-14 NSIC) ended St. Cloud State's (13-13, 10-12 NSIC) post season hopes with a three point win in St. Cloud finishing their season on a winning note. Carissa Wolyniec (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 20 points to lead the offense hitting four three pointers. Jodi Batzel (Rochester, Minn.) added 12 points and eight rebounds. BOX SCORE

WolyniecThe Golden Bears overcame 25 turnovers and giving up 21 offensive rebounds to cling to the three point win. CU's defense helped them over come by holding SCSU to 4-25 shooting from behind the three point line and 23-70 (32.9%) from the field. The Huskies took 15 more shots than Concordia in the game. St. Cloud State outscored CU 36-28 in the paint and 17-8 in second chance points.

From the start of the game it was battle as the two teams went back and forth through the first seven minutes. Concordia held a 10-7 lead with 14:50 left before SCSU went on a run scoring 13 straight to take a 20-10 lead with 9:44 left in the half.  

SCSU kept CU at bay for the next five minutes but the Golden Bears scored six straight points to tie the game up at 28 with 4:04 left on the clock. Wolyniec gave CU the lead back for the firstBatzel time since leading 10-7 by converting an old fashioned three point play. The Huskies had a chance to tie the game up with :44 seconds left but missed a free through as Concordia took a 36-35 lead in to the break.

Concordia extended the lead to seven out of the break thanks to a pair of layups and free throws. Saint Cloud State battled back to tie the game up at the 14:19 mark, but CU continued to score and had an eight point lead, 58-50 with ten minutes left. The Huskies got within one possession four minutes later and stayed within reach the rest of the game. 

The lead was down to just one with two minutes left after a three point on a possession that saw SCSU get four offensive rebounds. It would be the last basket St. Cloud would score in the game as they got just one shot off in the final minutes, that shot came with two seconds left on the clock but the miss gave CU the win and ended the Huskies chances of making the NSIC Tournament.
