ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University women's basketball team will open NSIC play Saturday at Minnesota State. Tip-off between the Golden Bears (2-2) and Mavericks (3-0) is 5:00 p.m. at the Taylor Center.

THE MATCH-UP... Saturday's game at Minnesota State, Mankato will mark the 26th meeting between the Golden Bears and Mavericks on the court. Concordia leads the all-time series 14-11. The Golden Bears have won five of the last six meetings, but lost their most recent meeting, 71-65, on February 11, 2012 at the Gangelhoff Center.
LAST YEAR AT TAYLOR CENTER... The Golden Bears defeated the Mavericks 83-67 on their home court on December 9, 2011.
Anika Whiting (Ashland, Wis.) led the Bears with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor and hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds. CU shot 50.9% (27-53), while MSU shot 32.4% (23-71).
LAST TIME OUT... The Golden Bears split their two games at the Radisson Roseville Thanksgiving Classic, falling to William Penn 75-73 on Friday and rebounding on Saturday with a 71-51 victory over Nebraska Kearney, improving to 2-2 on the young season. Between the two games, CU shot 48-for-112 from the floor (42.9%) and averaged 35.5 rebounds per game.
Whiting and
Rachel Hansen (Eagan, Minn.) were named to the five-member All-Tournament Team.
On Friday,
Carissa Wolyniec (Minneapolis, Minn.) led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Eighteen of her 20 points were from three-point range, sinking 6-of-10. Whiting scored 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and led the team with nine rebounds.
On Saturday, Whiting led the Bears with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. She also hauled in a team-high seven rebounds. Hansen was the only other player to reach double digit points with 12. She shot 2-for-7 from the floor, 7-for-8 from the free throw line and led the team with nine assists and three steals. She also grabbed five boards.
OFF TO A FAST START... Whiting was named to the Radisson Roseville Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team for her exemplary performance. In the loss to William Penn, Whiting scored 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and led the team with nine rebounds. On Saturday in the win over Nebraska Kearney, Whiting led the Bears with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. She also hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
Whiting is off to fast to start for CU. After the first four games of the season, the sophomore forward leads the team averaging 17.3 points per game, 61.4% shooting from the field and 8.0 rebounds.
