ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia men's basketball team (1-2) enters Northern Sun play this Saturday with a road game at Minnesota State (4-0) played at Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn. with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
The Golden Bears have defeated Minnesota State three consecutive times and the Mavericks have not picked up a win over Concordia since December 10, 2010 which was played at Gangelhoff Center. Concordia has won two-straight at Taylor Center, picking up wins in February and December of 2011. Last year, Concordia swept the Mavericks in the two meetings between the teams, scoring 85 points each time while holding MSU to 76 or less in each contest.
Against MSU last year,
Isaiah Thomas was outstanding as he averaged 21.0 points in the two games, making 10-of-17 three-pointers at a 58.8% rate.
Terez VanPelt, who is averaging over 20 points per game this year, averaged 9.5 points and 4.0 assists while turning it over just three times in 60 minutes of cumulative play against MSU as a true freshman last season.
The game will be another key early season test for Concordia as the Mavericks are receiving votes in the latest NABC Top-25 Coaches' Poll and sport a perfect 4-0 early season record.
