ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday, the Concordia men's basketball team officially opens the 2012-13 season with a non-conference home opener against Clarke University (2-3) at 1 p.m. at Gangelhoff Center.
The Golden Bears averaged over 100 points per game during their exhibition season and will look to keep their offensive momentum rolling while solidifying the defensive side for the regular season.
Clarke has played five games in their 2012-13 season including an 87-64 win last night over Association Free Lutheran Bible School which was played on the campus of North Central University in downtown Minneapolis.
The Golden Bears went 3-0 in preseason with wins in their alumni scrimmage, and exhibition wins at St. John's and at home against Wisconsin-River Falls. Four players averaged in double-figures during the preseason led by
Terez VanPelt (Osseo, Minn.) with 22.3 points and 7.0 assists per game and
Isaiah Thomas (Fridley, Minn.) with 15.7 points and 10.7 rebounds.
Cole Olstad (Elgin, Minn.) contributed 17.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while
Nick Mabbutt (Milton Keynes, UK) led the group inside with 12.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and nine blocked shots.
As a team, the Golden Bears shot 52.2% from the floor while holding the opposition to 39.2% shooting. They also dominated the glass, 47.7 to 37.7.
