MINOT, N.D. – The sixth-ranked Concordia University volleyball team won in straight sets Friday night at Minot State. The Golden Bears, who improve to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC, won by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-12.
Cassie Haag (Plymouth, Minn.) paced the CU offense with a game-high 12 kills and hit at a .500 attack rate (12-2-20). She also posted four blocks for 14.5 points. Libero
Taylor Dordan (Blaine, Minn.) led the defense with 11 digs. And
Amanda Konetchy (Victoria, Minn.) tallied 34 assists (11.33 per set), leading to a .310 team attack percentage.
Concordia scored the first point in the opening set and never looked back. There were two scoring ties at 6-6 and 8-8, but the Golden Bears only gave up five points the rest of the way for a 13-point victory.
Minot State controlled the second set early with a 6-5 lead, but that didn't last long as CU scored the next two points and never gave up the lead. The Beavers knotted the score four times after giving up the lead, but the Golden Bears pulled away with an 8-to-2 run to end the set.
The Beavers were able to score early and often in the third set as well for a 5-2 lead, but a 14-to-1 spree gave the visitors a commanding 16-6 lead en route to the deciding 25-12 victory.
Concordia continues its North Dakota trip Saturday at the University of Mary. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the McDowell Activity Center.
