#22 Regis upends Golden Bears

saint paul, minn. - the #22 nationally ranked regis rangers (2-0) flexed their muscle on sunday afternoon beating concordia (0-2) by a score of 5-0. The golden bears played regis tough in the first half, missing out on a chance to go up 1-0 in the 10th minute. The rangers, who have won 10+ games in three straight seasons, scored three goals in six minutes of play to pull away in the first half. box score

the first 20+ minutes of the first half saw both teams feel each other out and work the ball for possession. Concordia did a great job keeping the rangers at bay and playing good defense. Cu had the first real chance on net as amanda olsen crossed a ball from outside the box. arielle stimson flicked the pass on to savannah nolen who was just out side the six yard box with only the goal to beat. Nolen's chance failed to hit frame sailing over the crossbar as a 1-0 lead escaped the golden bears.

in the 24th minute regis got on the board as jordan miller beat cu keeper kayla kuczaboski. Regis capitalized again in the 27th minute as they used a free kick to their advantage. From about 20 yards out erin kettmann tapped it to marissa davis, davis' shot hit the post and was finished off by kikki arnold to put the rangers up 2-0. Just two minutes later regis made it 3-0 on a goal by kettmann. The golden bears went into half trailing #22 regis 3-0. Kuczaboski had six saves in the first 45.

in the second half regis used their passing skills to assert themselves in the match. It culminated in again in the 58th minute when davis found a ball at her feet from a cu defender and beat kuczaboski from 15 yards out. Miller added her second goal of the match in the 63rd minute in a solo effort dribbling through cu defenders starting from 20 yards out and beating kuczaboski to her right. Kuczaboski added three more saves in the second half but it was not enough as cu fell to 0-2 on the season.

concordia is back in action friday as they travel to northwestern (minn.) for a match at 4:00 p.m. The next time cu will be at sea foam stadium is september 14 as they take on nsic opponent winona state in a non-conference battle under the lights.
