denver, colo. - the golden bears (7-0) put themselves in the metro/regis premier championship match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-9) sweep of california baptist (5-2). Megan carlson had another double-double going for 12 kills and 10 digs on the afternoon. Cassie haag had 11 kills and hit .421 on 19 attempts. Amanda konetchy just missed a double-double going for 33 assists and nine digs.
box scorekatie habeck had another nice match racking up eight kills and three blocks. Kayla koenecke had six kills, four blocks and seven digs on the afternoon.
in the first set the golden bears jumped out to a 5-2 lead, forcing two attack errors early on. The lancers got within two but that was as close as they got in the first set. Concordia was on fire through the middle part of the set going on a 17-8 run taking a late 23-12 lead. The set finished with a kill from carlson as cu won 25-17.
concordia jumped out again in set two taking a 10-4 lead in larger part thanks to service aces and attack errors by cbu. The lancers got back in the set drawing within two at 13-11, but the golden bear would not be denied going on a 8-3 run to take a 21-13 lead late in the match. An attack error by the lancers gave cu another 25-17 set win.
the golden bears flexed their muscles in set three as the jumped out to 9-2 lead forcing a lancer timeout. Californai baptist was only able to get within six points in the third set as cu pounded the ball enroute to a 25-9 set win.
the championship match is set for 8:00 p.m. Tonight as cu will face the winner of #4 washburn and host #9 regis. You can listen to the match
