sioux falls, s. D. - the golden bears (23-15, 6-8 nsic) fell for the fifth straight game on monday afternoon as #17 augustana (33-4, 14-1 nsic) swept the nsic doubleheader 9-2 and 8-0. Concordia got a pair of rbi's by sami mattson in game one, including her 15th homerun of the season. brynn larsen went 3-4 in the opening game, her team leading fourth, three hit game of the season. game 1 box | game 2 box

game 1
larsen got the golden bears going in the top of the first with a one out single to center. Unfortunately she was stranded there as calli brennan flied out to left and mattson struck out. Augustana was able to convert in their half of the inning as a lead off double came home on a one out sac fly to center field.

concordia got the first two runners of the inning on in the second as tessa ewert walked and erin tjornhom singled left field. The golden bears failed to convert as a fly out, strikeout and ground out ended the threat. ashley kluever put down the vikings in order in the bottom of the second.

a run in the top of the third for cu tied the game up at one. Larsen doubled down the right field line and scored on mattson's two out single to left. Ac tried to get a two out rally going in the bottom of the third but the runners were stranded on first and second as kluever got a pop out to end the inning.

missie feuerbach got a one out single to second in the fourth but a pair of strikeouts ended any scoring chance. The game remained 1-1 after cu got out of jam in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff walk and sac bunt put a runner in scoring position with just one out. An error put runners on first and second but kluever got a double play to end the inning as a fly out to right field got the batter and the runner was caught off second to end the inning.

in the fifth inning cu went down in order and ac took their second lead of the game thanks to three runs on four hits and two cu errors. Augustana had just a runner on first with two down but a double followed to score a run and a single followed by an error gave ac the second run of the inning. Another singled up the middle followed and gave augustana a 4-1 lead.

mattson hit her 15th homerun of the year to lead off the sixth as concordia tried to get back in the game. Augustana opened the game up in bottom of the sixth as the vikings scored five runs on three hits. A two out double cleared the bases and then a two run homer by the next batter gave ac five quick runs.

the golden bears tried to answer in the seventh as stephanie schmikla, katie anderson and larsen all singled to load the bases to open in the inning. An infield fly followed by a fielders' choice, as schmikla was cut down at home kept the bases loaded with two down. Ewert struck out swinging to end the game as the rally fell short.

game 2
the second game of the doubleheader was a lot different than the first as the cu offense was held at bay. Concordia got a two out walk in the first but a strike out of mattson ended the inning. The vikings got back to back singles to start the inning and a sac bunt put runners on the second and third with one out. A single followed scoring the runner from third and an error in left field allowed the runner for second to score.

concordia did not have base runner reach in the second as they went down in order. Augustana continued to bring runners across the plate in the bottom of the second. A leadoff double and a one out single brought another runner home. An error allowed the runner to go to second as the threat continued. A homerun followed a sac bunt as ac took a 5-0 lead after two innings.

the golden bears went down in order in the top of the third as they continued to be fooled by ac pitcher, chelsey durland. Schmikla gave up a leadoff double and a walk as the vikings looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the third. A strikeout followed by a pick off and ground out to second ended the ac threat and kept to score at 5-0.

megan revoir broke up the no hitter in the top of the fourth with a one out single to third. Cu's erin tjornhom singled after a fielder's choice as the golden bears put runners on first and second with two outs. Ewert failed to convert for cu as she grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning. Ac took advantage of their scoring opportunity as they scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a two run homerun.

durland settled back down in the fifth as she put cu down in order. The vikings ended the game in the fifth as they pushed across a run with one out.

the golden bears will back home this thursday-saturday as they host three nsic doubleheaders. The week starts by hosting a doubleheader against #6 minnesota state at 2 and 4 p.m. At carlander field.
