Golden bears make it ten straight

winona, minn. - concordia (13-8, 11-5 nsic) kept the streak alive with a big second half as they won their tenth straight game 76-64 over winona state (15-6, 11-6 nsic) to take sole possession of third place in the northern sun. jineen williams led all scorers with 22 in the game and maurika hickman was right behind her with 21. jodi batzel and zoraa quoie both added ten points in the game. box score

quoie had a great all around effort adding a team high eight rebounds, six assists and five steals. Williams added seven boards in the game as cu edged the warriors 31-29 in the rounding department. The golden bears used a 22-12 scoring effort in the paint, which was key in the victory.

winona state opened up the first half on 11-4 run, thanks to six points from michelle mcdonald. Wsu extended their lead to 23-13 with 8:05 left in the first half. The golden bears were just 1-7 from three point range entering the media timeout. The warriors kept the pressure on cu as they got out to a 13 point lead with 4:54 left in the half, forcing an concordia timeout. Winona state led by as much as 14 in the first half at 32-18 but an 11-5 run cut cu's deficit to eight at the break.

in the first half cu was led by seniors williams and hickman who combined for 18 of the golden bears 29 points. Williams was 3-6 from the floor and 4-4 from the line in the first half. Hickman was able to find the range from behind the arc as she was 2-3 from three point land. Quoie had five rebounds and three steals in the first half to pace the cu defense.

concordia started the second half strong scoring the first 12 points of the second half to take a 41-37 lead. Batzel had six points and williams had four during the run. Cu held winona state scoreless for the first five minutes of the half. Wsu went on 9-0 run midway through the second half and took a 52-48 lead into the second half media timeout. The golden bears responded by going on a 11-0 run to take a 59-54 lead, hickman hit three straight three pointers during the run. Concordia led by ten at 72-62 with 1:33 left in the game, thanks to a 24-8 run which keyed the victory.

hickman led the golden bears in the second half as she was perfect from the floor shooting 4-4 from the field including 3-3 from behind the arc. Hickman had her own 9-0 run the game as she hit back to back to back three pointers to give cu the boost they needed. Quoie had all 10 of her points in the second half, along with three assists and two steals. Williams was 5-7 from the field in second half scoring 12 points.

the golden bears will be on the road against next weekend as they will face southwest minnesota state and minnesota state on friday and saturday.
