rochester, minn. - after having trouble finding their bats in the first day of the nsic/rmac crossover concordia (3-2) exploded for 30 runs in three games. The golden bears beat the university of colorado-colorado 8-0 in five innings to start the day followed by a 7-5 win over nebraska-kearney and a 15-6 win over adams state in five innings. ashley kluever, stephanie schmikla and cassye mcmahon all picked up wins on saturday. cu-uccs box | cu-unk box | cu-adams state box

in game one stephanie schmikla took her spot in the circle, her first start of the year and tossed five shutout innings giving up just two hits on the afternoon. Concordia opened up the top of the first scoring a run off a one out homerun by brynn larsen. It was cu's first homer of the season and the first for larsen in her career. In the third inning cu scored another run thanks to the speed of katie anderson. Anderson singled to start the inning and then stole second and third. Anderson ended up scoring on a one out sac fly by calli brennan. Through the first three innings schmikla gave up just one hit and allowed just one baserunner.

the top of the fourth was a big one for cu as they scored five runs off five hits and left nobody on base. The inning started with a kluever infield single, followed by a katie feuerbach single to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Bekah roth sacrificed the runners to second and third and anderson singled to left to score kluever. Larsen came up next and smoked a triple down the left field line to score two more. Brennan came up next and homered to left center to score larsen and herself bringing the cu lead to seven. Concordia added another run in the fifth when missie feuerbach scored off a roth single to right. Schmikla got out of a jam in the bottom of the fifth as uccs loaded the bases with one out. Schmikla got m. Wallace to ground into a unassisted double play to roth.

game two was a lot closer as both teams found their offense. Concordia started the scoring in the top of the first scoring three runs. Anderson was hit by a pitch and larsen reached on a error to start the game. Anderson went to third on the error. An illegal pitch scored anderson and put larsen on third. Mattson singled to the pitcher scoring larsen from third to put cu up 2-0. Erin tjornhom singled to short and advancing mattson to second. M. Feuerbach singled to left to load the bases with one out. Kluever singled to right to score mattson for concordia's third run of the game.

the next two and half innings saw neither team score. Unk left two people on base over the first three innings and never got a runner past second base as cassye mcmahon controlled the strike zone. Unk got their bats rolling in the bottom of the fourth scoring twice, one unearned. Both teams went down in order in the fifth.

the golden bears bats came alive again in the top of sixth as cu exploded for four runs on three hits. A tjornhom walk and m. Feuerbach double started the inning. Kluever then bashed her first homerun of the season scoring three and putting cu up 6-2. Roth doubled and advanced to third on an error before stealing home to push the concordia lead to 7-2. Nebraska-kearney responded by scoring three runs on one hit. All three runs were unearned after two errors but the second and third batters of the inning on base. Neither team had a hit in the final inning as cu came away with a 7-5 victory.

concordia started the scoring in game three as well scoring two in the top of the first. Anderson singled to short to start the game and scored off a mattson homerun to left field. Adams state responded scoring four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the first. Their four runs came off five hits and two cu errors. One of the adams state's runs was unearned as a throwing error allowed a run to cross home.

cu took the lead right back scoring three in the top of the second on four hits. All three runs came with two outs as concordia started the inning with a ground out and strikeout. Katie feuerbach doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball. Roth doubled to left center to score k. Feuerbach. Anderson then singled to third advancing roth to third. Anderson stole second and her and roth scored on larsen single up the middle. Adams state got the lead off batter on in the second but didn’t score.

in the top of third a tjornhom walk and a muffed pick off attempt put her on second. M. Feuerbach singled to right center to score tjornhom. Asc responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third scoring on a k. Payne homer to right center.

the top of the fourth started with a k. Feuerbach double down the left field line and a roth single up the middle. K. Feuerbach advance to third on a fielding error by the right fielder. Anderson singled up the middle to score k. Feuerbach. Larsen reached on fielders choice to put runners on first and second with one down. Larsen and anderson succeeded with a double steal to put runners on second and third. Brennan singled up the middle to score anderson. Mattson singled to the catcher and score larsen from third. Tjornhom also singled up the middle to score brennan for the fourth run of the inning. Kluever singled up the middle with two down to score both mattson and tjornhom.

adams state managed two hits in the bottom of the fourth but was unable to score. Concordia scored three runs in the top of fifth to extend their lead to 15-5. Mattson hit a two run homerun thanks to an error to allow larsen on base as the second batter. Tjornhom scored another unearned run in the inning to score the 15th cu run. Asc scored a run in the bottom of the inning but it was not enough as cu took the game in five innings. Kluever struck out four in the win.

concordia will wrap up the crossover tomorrow with a game against csu-pueblo at noon.
