saint paul, minn. - in their highest offensive total of the year, concordia (16-8, 15-5 nsic) won their 13th straight game 108-74 over the university of mary (12-12, 10-10 nsic). The golden bears tied a school record with 16 made three pointers on the night, cu made 16 last season against st. Cloud state as well. maurika hickman led cu with 25 points in 30 minutes of action. box score
hickman (below) did most of her damage from three point range connecting on 6-8 from behind the arc. She also dished out a game high six assists without having a turnover. jineen williams had 23 points on the night shooting 8-12 for the field and hitting three treys. jodi batzel also scored in double figures going for 14 along with grabbing seven rebounds. shandrell duncan poured in 10 points off the bench to lead all bench scorers on the night. zoraa quoie had seven points and four steals to lead the defense.
as a team cu shot 56.1% on the night along with 48.5% from behind the arc. Concordia used a 14-0 edge in fast break points as well as outscoring the marauders 17-6 in points off turnovers. The win was the golden bears 12th win by double digits during their streak. The 34 point win tied the biggest victory by cu all season, concordia also beat wayne state by 34 in their last home game.
mary jumped out early taking an 8-0 lead in the opening two minutes. Concordia recovered from the slow start and went on a 12-3 run to their first lead of the game. Quoie had five points during the golden bears run. The game remained close throughout most of the first half. Mary tied the game at 18 with 11:36 left in the first half. The game bounced back and forth between a one and two possession game until late in the first half. Late in the half the game was tied 40-40 but a 10-2 run by cu gave them a eight point lead with :30 left. At the end of the half cu in bounded underneath their basket with 5.4 seconds left. Maurika hickman found jodi batzel in the corner for just her eight three pointer of the season as time expired.
both the golden bears and marauders shot well in the first half; cu connected on 52.8% of their shots while mary hit 50.0%. Concordia hit eight three pointers in the first half and mary was right behind hitting six. Concordia outscored the marauders 20-14 in the paint. Williams led all cu scorers in the first half scoring 15 of her 23 in the opening frame. Hickman had 12 and batzel had 10.
concordia hit back to back three pointers right after half to take a 12 point lead. Hickman hit one at the 19:38 mark followed by williams at the 19:14 mark. Cu would never let mary cut the lead under 10 for the rest of the game as concordia began to take control. Mary got within 11 at 63-52 but cu went on a 18-4 run to take a 25 point lead 81-56. Hickman had 7 points during the run connecting on two three pointers. The two teams traded buckets back and forth for the next couple minutes of action as the hot shooting for both teams continued. The marauders then went cold following a basket at the 8:03 mark, mary did not make another shot for the next 4:30. Cu ended the game on a 20-10 run over the last 8:03. ari johnson had seven points in the last 3:16 of action. tori lythjohan hit a pair of three pointers in the closing minutes as well including the shot that gave cu their 100th point of the game.
the golden bears outshoot mary 60.0-26.7% in the second half to take control. Concordia connected on 8-15 from behind the arc whereas mary was just 2-11.
cu will be back in action tomorrow for think pink night presented by the hope lodge at 4 p.m. Against northern state.
