Bulldogs snap Golden Bears win streak

duluth, minn. - the concordia university soccer team (4-5, 3-2 nsic) dropped a tough road decision 3-2 on saturday afternoon at minnesota duluth (3-4-1, 3-2 nsic) at malosky stadium. The loss for concordia stops a three game winning streak as the bulldogs and golden bears are now tied with nine points in the nsic standings. box score

after the bulldogs took the lead in the third minute, the golden bears stormed back with goals in the 12th and 26th minutes to take the lead, which held until the 37th minute.

their first goal was by junior arielle stimson (lakeville, minn.), her first of the season assisted by junior kim sauberlich (appleton, wis.) which was her first assist as well.

the second goal was scored by junior amanda olsen (cottage grove, minn.), her 10th of the season as sophomore brittany kapala (fridley, minn.) picked up her fifth assist.

after the bulldogs tied the game late in the first half, the score remained tied until the 70th minute when umd put in the game winner.

concordia was able to fire 12 shots in the game, with six coming on net as umd keeper hanna iaizzo saved four of them. Olsen was busy with five total shots and three on goal while stimson fired a pair of shots, both on goal.

the bulldogs were more aggressive offensively with 19 shots in the game including 13 in the first half. They had eight shots on goal in the first half as senior megan kurtz (waunakee, wis.) saved six shots but she only faced one shot in the second half which went in the net.

concordia looks to pick up a result tomorrow as they remain on the road to face bemidji state. The beavers lead concordia by one point in the standings with 10 (3-1-1) and are in third place while the golden bears are tied for fourth with three other teams including umd with nine points. The nsic leaders, minnesota state and winona state, are within reach at 12 points if cu is able to pick up a win tomorrow
