Golden Bears ace the Huskies

st. Paul, minn. - top-ranked concordia university (15-0, 6-0 nsic) used 10 team service aces and hit .380 offensively to defeat st. Cloud state (6-8, 1-5 nsic) on saturday afternoon at gangelhoff center. The golden bears also limited the huskies to .011 hitting, thanks in part to a 7-2 advantage in blocking at the net. box score

with the win, concordia moves their overall winning streak to 37, their home winning streak to 57 and their nsic winning streak to 78 matches. In 15 matches (46 sets), concordia has dropped just one set.

today, they held scsu to 8 and 10 in the first two sets before the huskies rallied in the third set, trailing 13-12 midway through the set.

from there, concordia turned it on, scoring seven of the next nine points to lead 20-14. Scsu scored four of the next five to cut it to 21-18 late, but concordia closed out the match with four straight points for the victory.

like they've been doing all year, concordia's offense was balanced with four hitters drilling seven kills or more while the fifth, junior ellie duffy (fridley, minn.) had five kills before taking the third set off.

freshman katie habeck (farmington, minn.) led the offense with nine kills without an error in 14 swings to hit a team-high .643. She also had a pair of solo blocks and three total.

senior megan carlson (andover, minn.) had half of concordia's 10 aces while also delivering seven kills and a team high 12 digs.

the balanced offense was set by sophomore amanda konetchy (victoria, minn.) as she distributed kills to six different hitters who all hit at least .278. She finished with 31 assists and contributed six digs and an assisted block.

st. Cloud state spread their attack out as well with five players terminating either three or four kills.

the golden bears return home next friday and saturday, hosting upper iowa at 7:00 on friday and winona state on saturday for parent and youth day at the gangelhoff center.
