wayne, neb. - the golden bears (3-7, 2-4 nsic) were unable to find much offense as they fell in their first game of 2011 to #10 wayne state (10-1, 7-0) 83-64. The golden bears were led by senior jineen williams (racine, wis.) who had a season-high 26 points along with eight rebounds in the losing effort. cu also got nine points from both freshman jodi batzel (rochester, minn.) and senior maurika hickman (minneapolis, minn.) in the game and senior zoraa quoie (boston, mass.) added eight points.

the golden bears shot just 33.3 percent in the first half but rebounded to shoot 58.1% in the second half. In the first half concordia made more shots from outside the arc (5) than they did from inside the arc (4). Freshman carissa wolyniec (minneapolis, minn.) and quoie were a combined 4-5 on the night in from behind the arc as the team shot 6 of 11 from long range for the evening.

concordia trailed 13-8 with 10:46 left in the first half, but wayne state went on a 17-5 run to take a commanding 30-13 lead with just under six minutes left in the half. The wildcats maintained the 17 point lead into halftime leading 42-25.

as the second half began the wildcats kept up the pressure and extended the lead to 58-38 with 13:05 left in the game. The wildcats kept firing away in the second half and shot 55.6% as they extended their lead to as much as 23 with 3:02 left 81-58.

in the game cu scored more points in the paint, outscoring wsc 32-26 and 14-8 off second chance points. The wildcats were 13-13 from the foul line and made 10 three-pointers in the victory.

the wildcats were led by alyssa fischbach's 24 points on 9-13 shooting while mara hjelle 16 points and three blocked shots in the middle. Concordia held one of the league's top players, ashley arlen, to just 2-9 shooting and six points in 23 minutes, but she managed eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Alisha brown added 13 points and nine assists off the bench for wsc.
