saint paul, minn. - the golden bears (10-8, 9-5 nsic) took a big step in the right direction on friday night in the gangelhoff as they extended their winning streak to seven game with a big 76-60 win against augustana (15-6, 8-6 nsic). Cu once again pulled off the victory by a margin of 10 points or more to continue that streak as well. Concordia was led by zoraa quoie, jineen williams and many poke who all had double digit scoring. Poke had a career high in points (13) and rebounds (9) coming up just short of a double-double. box score

concordia used a 40-22 scoring advantage in the paint along with nine blocks, a season high to control the most potent offense in the nsic. Cu held the vikings in check by contesting shots all night and hold au to 31.6% from the field almost 14% lower than their season average. Augustana the fifth best 3 point shooting team in the nation with 9.2 three pointers made per game were held to just 6-17 from behind the arc. Augustana had just nine assists on the night, a low number for a team that usually puts up almost 18 per game. Williams, quoie and poke played tough defense and combined for seven steals and six blocks on the night. Williams had four blocks and four steals herself.
the golden bears were impressive shooting the ball again, especially in the first half, shooting 50.0% from the field. Cu used the hot shooting to jump out to an early 10-2 lead. Au climbed back with five at 12-7 but concordia went on a 13-2 run capped off by a three pointer from carissa wolyniec to take a commanding 25-9 lead. Concordia's largest lead in the first half was 18 but a 13-4 run closed their deficit to just nine. The golden bears ended the run with another big three from wolyniec, which gave cu a 38-26 lead with :32 left in the first half. Au's megan doyle hit a layup as time expired to cut the lead to ten at halftime.

Augustana was 10-11 from the foul line in the first half which kept them within striking distance. Quoie led all scorers in the first half with 11 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and 2-2 from the line.
as the second half began cu charged ahead by 17 with a 7-2 run in the first 2:48 of half, poke had four of the seven points. The golden bears kept their lead around 17 for the next 6:56 of the half. Au used a quick 6-1 run to cut the lead to 12 but concordia scored nine of the next ten points to take their largest lead of the game 66-46 with 7:35 remaining. Cu kept a 17-20 point lead for most of the remaining half as they came away with one their biggest wins of the season 76-60.
in the second half quoie again was the leading scorer as she scored 12 of her 23 points, one shy of her season high and five short of her career high. Quoie did most her damage in the second half from the line going 6-6 as cu went 14-16 from the line to extinguish any chance of a vikings comeback. Poke had 5 points and six rebounds coming up just short of a double-double. rachel hansen was perfect in the second half as she scored seven of her nine thanks to a 2-2 from the field including a three and 2-2 from the line. Williams added eight points, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
concordia has another big game tomorrow afternoon at the gangelhoff as they take on #6 wayne state at 4 p.m. Wayne state improved to 17-1 on the season with a 79-65 win at st. Cloud state. The wildcats are a perfect 14-0 in the nsic and sit at the number 1 spot in the central regional rankings.
