both teams started slow as only four points were scored in the opening three minutes. The two teams battled back and forth for most of the opening ten minutes. With cu trailing by three at 20-17 with 9:57 left in the half, williams hit a nba range three pointer to tie the game and start at 10-1 run which propelled cu to 1 27-21 lead. The golden bears continued their run and finished the half on a 22-8 run which gave them a 39-28 lead at half time.
cu was led by hickman and williams in the first half as the combined for 16 points in the opening half. Hickman had nine points in the half on 3-5 shooting. zoraa quoie had four assists and six points in the half as well. Freshman jodi batzel had six points as well along with five boards. Umd's katrina newmann had 12 points in the opening half to lead all scorers.
the golden bears kept scoring as the second half started, outscoring the bulldogs 21-4 in the opening 6:13 of the half. In all the golden bears had a 43-12 run from 9:57 in the first half to 13:47 in the second half. Concordia held umd to just 22 points in the second half as the bulldogs shot just 7-28. The golden bears had 10 assists in the second half in route to 17 in the game which tied a season high. Cu had just four turnovers in the second half as they took care of the ball the whole game having just 12 total turnovers.
concordia as team tied a season high with six blocks on the night as the defense was the key all around. The 50 points scored by umd were a season low by any opponent so far this season. The golden bears moved to 6-1 at home with victory on friday night thanks in large part to a 42-28 advantage in scoring in the paint.
quoie finished the game with five assists and three steals on the night. carissa wolyniec led all scorers off the bench with seven as cu’s bench contributed for 26 points on the night. mandy poke added two points, two assists and two blocks off the bench. Hickman hit 4-5 attempts from behind the three as she continues to be one of the best three point shooters in the conference.
concordia will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. As they take on the bemidji state beavers in another nsic clash. Bemidji state fell to st. Cloud state 70-51 on friday night in saint cloud.
