Golden Bears extinguish Dragons in straight sets

saint paul, minn. - the golden bears won their tenth match of the season saturday afternoon taking care of msu-moorhead 3-0, (25-12, 25-23, 25-13). Cu has now won 57 straight matches in nsic regular season play and 46 straight home matches. Concordia's emily palkert became the third leading scorer in cu history, she now has 1608 in her illustrious career. box score
 

cassie haag finished with 13 kills while hitting .444 to lead the team, she also added two solo blocks. Freshman kayla koenecke hit .588 with ten kills and ten digs. taylor fieldsted led the way with 15 kills followed by 11 by both krista erikson and megan carlson. amanda konetchy finished up with 45 assists on the afternoon.

concordia jumped out to a 11-7 lead and forced a msu-mankato timeout. Following the timeout cu scored twice more before the dragons scored again. Cu forced another timeout at 18-8 after five straight points. The cu service was able find holes within the msum serve receive and used it the rest of the match to take set one 25-12.

the golden bears had a little bit of a struggle in set two, a key was the dragons cutting the the serve receive errors from 3-1 and cut the cu hitting percentage from .500 to .325. Cassie haag had nine kills after two sets. Msu-moorhead jumped out to a 9-3 lead before cu was able to close the gap at 11-9. The dragons extended the lead to 14-10 before cu rattled off six straight points to take a 16-14 lead. Moorhead tied the game a 23 but a kill from haag and ball handling error gave the set to cu 25-23.

cu jumped out to a 8-4 lead to force a msum timeout. The golden bears kept up the momentum and forced another dragons timeout with a 14-6 lead. The dragons picked it up after the timeout but cu's offense proved to be too much as concordia ran away with the set 25-13. Concordia hit .405 in the third set while holding msu-mankato to .083 hitting percentage.

concordia will go on the road tuesday night to face southwest minnesota state in a crucial early season battle between two of the top teams in the nsic. The mustangs are currently ranked fourth in the nation an just behind the golden bears in the nsic standings.
