denver, colo. - the golden bears volleyball team suffered their second set back of the season saturday afternoon against nsic rival wayne state 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 25-17, 25-23). Concordia falls to 5-2 on the season with the loss; it was the first time in 37 matches that cu has lost to a ranked opponent and the first loss to an nsic opponent since the 2007 nsic conference tournament.

megan carlson led the way with 18 kills on the afternoon, she added 15 digs as well. Three other golden bears had double digit kills; kayla koenecke added 14, emily palkert had 13 and cassie haag had 12. amanda konetchy had 53 assists, a new career high and 15 digs. taylor fieldsted also set a career high with 30 digs.

set one was close throughout with neither team leading by more than three the whole set. Concordia jumped out 3-0 and 11-8 but the wildcats had the lead when it mattered winning the set 25-22.

the golden bears jumped out to a 7-2 early lead and never looked back extending it to 18-11 late in the set. The wildcats got within six at 20-14 but cu won the set 25-15.

the third set was a mirror image of the second set with the wsc jumping out to a 13-7 lead. Concordia got back within four at 18-14 but that was as close the the golden bears would get and wsc won the set 25-17.

set four proved to be the match winner for the wildcats. The set was close throughout and cu had a 17-14 lead in the middle of the set. Wsc went on a 5-0 run to take a 19-17 lead and never gave up the lead wining the set 25-23.

the golden bears will be back in action this evening at 6 p.m. Against tampa, a rematch from last saturday.
