Golden bears drop two at minnesota duluth

duluth, minn. - for the first time this season, the concordia baseball team played an official away game. In hostile territory against a northern sun rival in non-conference games, the golden bears were unable to pull off a road win as they were swept with 9-5 and 13-2 losses today at minnesota duluth. Concordia falls to 8-17 on the season while the bulldogs improve to 13-11 overall and have now won three straight. Concordia has now completed their 2010 non-conference schedule and will look to the nsic season this thursday and friday when they host wayne state at barnes field for a four game series. game 1 box - game 2 box

the golden bears finish the non-conference part of their schedule with an 8-13 record, playing 11 games at the metrodome, six in florida and four games in a home/home series against umd.

in the first game, umd jumped out to a 5-0 lead as second inning errors led to the five runs. Concordia came back strong as they have done all season, putting up four runs to cut the lead to just one run.

but they couldn't overcome the host bulldogs. Freshman left hander patrick rydeen (stillwater, minn.) got the start for concordia in game one.

in game two, concordia took the early lead with sophomore shortstop bryan lippincott's (des moines, iowa) second home run of the season.

but the issue that plagued concordia today was the control from their pitching staff along with the defensive errors behind them. Sophmore left hander ty hall (spring lake park, minn.) made his first start of the season and kept concordia in the game through three innings as they trailed 3-1.

but throwing 40% of his pitches for strikes forced concordia to turn to the bullpen and the bulldog bats came alive as they finished off the season series sweep, 13-2.
