st. Paul, minn. - eight of concordia's student-athletes have received the nsic myles brand all-academic with distinction award, an inaugural honor that recognizes the highest echelon of collegiate student-athletes. The honor, named for the late ncaa president dr. Myles brand, is bestowed to senior nsic student-athletes who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher, are exhausting their eligibility and are on track to graduate. A total of 71 student-athletes from the nsic's 14 institutions, including eight from concordia, will receive the award in its inaugural year. The golden bears being recognized are kendra benson, anna bjorlin, megan fulton, ryan iverson, sandra james, maggie mcnamara, mary slinger and jayme wyss.
"we are very excited that the nsic has created such a prestigious award to honor the league's top students who are also collegiate athletes," said concordia athletics director tom rubbelke. "we pride our student-athletes here at concordia for their academic achievements, and these eight athletes have represented the highest level of success, both in and out of competition, over their careers as golden bears."
