Both emily palkert and cassie haag led the way with 12 kills each. kayla koenecke had a double double with 10 kills and 10 digs. megan carlson had 16 digs as cu moves to 20-4 on the season and 15-0 in the nsic. Concordia improves to 15-0 in the nsic (20-4 overall) while augustana falls to 7-8 in league play (12-14 overall). box score
augustana jumped out early scoring the first three points of the match. Cu was able to regain their composure and tied the match up and the two teams battled it out until cu forced an augie timeout leading 15-11. The golden bears and vikings continued to play well defensively as they combined for 46 digs in the first set. Cu was able to pull away winning the set 25-16. Augie's grace sanders who is the nsic's defensive player of the week had 15 digs in the first set alone. Cu had six blocks in the first set.
the defense for both teams picked it up again in set two as the two teams combined for 82 digs throughout the first two sets. Surprisingly as defensive of a set it was both teams hit over .320. The golden bears got up to a 11-7 but augie fought back and tied the match up at 15. Augustana took a 17-16 lead late in the set and maintained the lead until cu took it back at 23-22. Cu went on to win the set 25-22.
concordia controlled most of the third set going up 14-9 forcing a second augie timeout early in the set. The golden bears defense held the vikings to a -.062 hitting percentage in the third set as they ran away from the vikings 25-17. Cu had five blocks in the deciding set.
concordia will be on the road this weekend as they travel to wayne state on friday in a match up of the two number one ranked teams in the nation. On saturday cu will have a rematch with augustana.
