the golden bears had four players in double digits in the kills category. Palkert and
megan carlson each had 15 kills, carlson added 24 digs as well.
cassie haag added 13 kills while
kayla koenecke added 12.
kara pioske added nine kills of her own. Setter
amanda konetchy had 61 assists on the night and average of 15.25 assists a set, it was a career high in assists.
taylor fieldsted was second on the team with 14 assists. As a team cu hit .364 on the evening and 11 blocks.
in set one cu jumped out to an early 10-6 lead forcing a timeout, following the to the golden bears scored off a rotation error on msu and ended up scoring four out of the next five points. Concordia controlled the set from then out on out and won set one 25-14.
set two was much like set one, seeing cu jump out early. This the golden bears got up to an 11-4 lead and forced msu to use their second timeout of the set very early. The golden bears again dominated the set and won 25-14.
set three was much closer than the previous two but again cu built a lead. They had a 23-18 lead late in the set and it looked like an almost certain sweep. The mavericks would not back down scoring six of the next seven points to tie the match at 24. The two teams exchanged a few points but ultimately msu won the set 28-26.
set four was even more intense as the two teams would not be denied offensively. After msu tied the set at 2-2 neither team had more than a point lead, expect cu leading 14-12. Cu got another two point lead at 24-22 but the mavericks called a timeout and got back within one. That move prompted brady starkey to use a timeout of his own and the golden bears won the set 25-23.
concordia will be back at the gangelhoff center tomorrow afternoon to face the #2 southwest minnesota state mustangs at 4 p.m.
