Janes' OT goal puts Cu past UIU

st. Paul, minn. - the golden bears played another physical game on sunday afternoon, but the result was different as they edged out the peacocks 2-1 in overtime. Cu, 5-6-1 overall and 4-3 in the nsic, got the match winner from senior kari janes in the 97th minute. Cu won a corner and janes received the ball off a deflected ball, it landed at her feet 15 yards out and she buried it in the top right corner. box score | photo gallery

the golden bears and peacocks played a very tight first half, and neither team had many great chances early on. arielle stimson had a chance in the five yard box that slipped past the keeper momentarily before she was able to retrieve it and save a goal. Upper iowa struck first when shaina marnell hit a ball into the box, it looked like a meaningless cross but the ball took a bad bounce off a chloe moore header and went past keeper kayla kuczaboski for an own goal.

cu could have easily packed it on going down 1-0 right before half on a tough goal, especially coming of 5-0 loss friday night but joe alianiello's squad came out right away in the second half and tied the match up in the 50th minute. brittany kapala recovered a bouncing ball in the box and headed it past the out stretched keeper. The rest of the second half was physical and two yellow cards were handed out, one to each team. There was a total of 33 fouls in the match all together.

kuczaboski moves to 3-2 on the season with the victory making seven saves for the golden bears. Kapala's goal was her fourth of the season and janes her second. The golden bears will be on the road friday as they take on saint cloud state at 7 p.m.
