lincoln, neb. - senior right handed pitchers aaron pfalzgraff (garland, texas) and chris kimpton (canberra, aus.) combined on a three hit shutout to lead concordia university (15-3) to a 10-0 win in a single nine inning contest against the university of mary (3-15) on sunday afternoon at kiwanis field in a neutral site non-conference matchup between the northern sun squads.
pfalzgraff started the game, working five innings of three hit pitching with four strikeouts. He picked up the win, improving to 2-0 on the season in four starts. He picked up both wins this week.
kimpton came out of the bullpen and was lights-out, providing four perfect innings of relief to earn the save. Kimpton struck out five marauders in picking up his first career save in what was actually his first career relief appearance in the navy and gold. Kimpton worked 10 solid innings in two appearances this week, earning a win and a save allowing just two runs between the 10 frames.
while the continued strength of the pitching staff shined on kiwanis field, the bats stayed hot as well with cu scoring in double-digits for the seventh time this season.
seniors chris herbert (white bear lake, minn.) and brenden furrow (johnston, iowa) each had two-hit games, going 2-5 and 2-4, respectively.
hot hitting youngsters bryan lippincott (fr., des moines, iowa) and jon stockton (so., oakdale, minn.) continued their early season success at the plate. Lippincott went 3-4 with a double and a walk while stockton was 2-3 walking and scoring twice.
