concordia started quick with four runs in the first and opened up a 10-2 lead after five innings over csm. The bats cooled down the stretch as the orediggers' ninth inning rally plated three runs but was shut down when sophomore right hander nick anderson (plymouth, minn.) recorded the final two outs to preserve the win.
kimpton was solid through six, allowing two runs while scattering seven singles. He struck out six while walking just one and forced the orediggers to hit into a key first inning double play to retire the side. He lowered his era to 4.20 on the season and has struck out 20 batters in 15 innings in his three starts.
senior lefty kirk ingram (woodbury, minn.) pitched two shutout innings allowing one hit with a strikeout and no walks in the seventh and eighth innings to hold the 10-2 lead.
at the plate, cu took advantage of the thin air in golden, drilling 15 singles with two doubles for a 17 hit performance. Freshman logan bouts (hopkins, minn.) was 2-3 with four rbi to lead cu's production.
seniors brenden furrow (johnston, iowa) and zane froehlich (sioux falls, s.d.) each went 3-6 and scored twice apiece while furrow drove in one and froehlich drove in a pair.
despite the offensive production, concordia stranded 19 runners on base in the nine inning contest. They walked seven times while csm committed eight errors.
the cu defense was stellar, once again playing error-free baseball for the fifth straight game.
