Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late run leads to hearty win

belmont, calif. - a late surge produced a stomping 23-4 run and gave the golden bear women's basketball team a 71-49 win over notre dame de namur (4-7) on saturday night. The assault not only preserves concordia's perfect season but also sets the team's holiday non-conference record at 15-0 over the past five years. Cu takes its 10-0 record on the road for a dec. 29 meeting with the nation's leader, #1 michigan tech. box score

the golden bears spread out their large lead in the final ten minutes of the game, hitting 10-of-13 field goals and four free throws. They also remained tight on the argonauts defensively, allowing only four total points and not a single field goal through the final 10 minutes.

zoraa quoie (jr., g, woodbury, minn.) paced the golden bears with a season high 21 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and sinking seven free throws. The team's run in the final minutes, however, saw scoring from all around the roster. Concordia finished with three players in double figures while ndnu had only one player finish with more than nine points.

concordia had another solid shooting night, using their 60.0% second half showing to finish the game with a 47.3% average. A slower first half featuring just 36.7% shooting led to a mere 32-30 halftime lead.

the argonauts seemed to be hanging with the golden bears until the midpoint of the second half rolled around. Down just three points, 48-45, the argonauts would not hit another field goal for the remainder of the matchup and quickly saw their hopes of knocking off concordia drain away. Even a 43-36 rebounding edge could not hold ndnu to within a manageable margin as concordia just couldn't miss a shot down the stretch.

the golden bears got their ball control in check following a rough night on friday and turned the rock over just 11 times in the game. gillian bjerke (sr., c, detroit lakes, minn.) and chanica hall (sr., g, minneapolis, minn.) each added 10 points to the concordia cause, trailing quoie in scoring. jineen williams (jr., g, racine, wis.) continues to dish the ball well on the road, adding five assists to her game high 14 rebounds and three steals.

the leading scorer for the argonauts was jennifer dreessen with 15. Laura zasly was held in check for most of the night, finishing with only nine points, but doing damage on the glass with 14 boards.
