not only did the three posts add 27 points, they were efficient, shooting 12-19 from the floor and collecting 14 rebounds. But their impact was made immediately, with junior forward chris hamblin (eagan, minn.) muscling his way through the lane for a powerful two-handed slam. A few minutes later on the break, senior guard sammy ricks (st. Paul, minn.) dished to a streaking brent barz (so., f, johnston, iowa) who caught the pass in stride just inside the free throw line and took off for a one-handed dunk in transition.
hamblin shot 5-6 from the floor, had 10 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes while barz had eight points, four rebounds and four blocks in 20 minutes. Off the bench, junior forward dan vandervieren (eden prairie, minn.) added nine points and five rebounds in only 15 minutes of work, shooting 4-6 from the floor.
heiman was on his game early and finished strong with 19 points including a crucial three-pointer down the stretch. He made three from long range in the game while cunningham was solid all-around as usual, hitting 5-9 from the floor with six assists and four rebounds.
the johnnie's had four players in double-figures led by sam blank's 16 points while aaron burtzel added 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Chrsi schwartz had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
concordia shot 55.6% in the second half and outscored the johnnie's 36-22 in the paint on the evening.
