Golden Bears smoke Wildcats

st. Paul, minn. - concordia university volleyball (18-1, 7-0 nsic) dropped the hammer on wayne state college (12-3, 2-3 nsic) a day after returning to the #1 spot in the avca division ii coaches poll. The golden bears took the match in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-16, 25-15. They play st. Cloud state in st. Cloud, minn. On saturday afternoon.

whitney meierotto delivered the mail on tuesday night, downing 13 kills and hitting .435. emily palkert had ten kills and, along with meierotto, had four blocks (1s, 4a each). The team did not allow the wildcats to get past the net often in the match, as they posted ten team blocks and frustrated hitters even more often. maria steinhagen had a big night as well, gathering four blocks, two solo and two assisted. She also had eight kills. mary slinger protected the cu floor, saving 17 balls as the only cu player in double figures for kills

the golden bears were not tentative at the hitting line. They fired away for 14 kills and a .542 average in the first game. Their averages went down in the remaining two games, but the power of swings certainly did not decrease. The team finished with a .326 hitting average in the win.

wayne state hit only .053 through the match. They had 28 kills, but committed 22 errors. With only one block throughout the three sets, the wildcats did not do much to stop the concordia offensive. Danielle wessel led the team with nine kills and seven digs. Tali fredrickson had eight kills and eight digs.
