Mavericks drill two for the win

mankato, minn. - a scoreless game was broken open late by the mavericks of minnesota state on sunday afternoon as msu took a 2-0 win over concordia university. The golden bears drop to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the league, while minnesota state stays undefeated 3-0-1 in nsic play and improves to 5-1-2 overall.

the first half of the game on the pitch in mankato was very evenly matched. The golden bears took six shots with two on-goal, both coming from freshman emily weimelt. The mavericks finished with six shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, but the pace of the game went even throughout. Keyton wheelock stopped all six shots to send the game into a 0-0 tie at the half.

the mavericks became more aggressive midway through the second period and amped up their shots on goal total to 14. The golden bears, however, were tamed to just another two shots on goal in the final period.

msu's laura leber scored her sixth goal of the season to put a notch on the scoreboard at the 66:19 mark. She was assisted by emily petrovich. The mavericks slipped in another score just before the game ended, as carly petersen gave her team the 2-0 win at the 89:36 mark.

wheelock saved six more shots in the second half to total 11 and gave up the two scores; the team saved one of msu's 14 shots at the net. The golden bears had nine shots in the game, six from weimelt, including three that were on target but were saved. Three other cu players took shots, but only taylor campione put a ball on goal.
