st. Paul, minn. - the golden bears overtook the peacocks of upper iowa in three games in the nsic opener on tuesday night, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17. Concordia (12-1, 1-0 nsic) is on the road this weekend, facing upper iowa (7-4, 0-1 nsic) again on friday night. They play winona state on saturday afternoon.
concordia started the night by hitting .500 in the first set to take the 25-14 win. They had another strong hitting performance in the second set, hitting .455 on their way to the 25-18 win. A cooler third set was due up, but extremely poor peacock hitting and defense allowed the golden bears to take the win.
emily palkert tallied 15 kills with a .500 average to lead the team. whitney meierotto hit an even better .611 on her way to 12 kills. She also had six digs. The top defender against the peacocks was rachel knutsen with eight digs. The golden bears hit .344 in the match compared to uiu's .103.
upper iowa did not have a player reach double figures in kills on the evening. The top swinger was shea meyermann with eight kills. keri vance had a team high nine digs.
